Zimbabwe records 12 new coronavirus cases, two recover

Zimbabwe today recorded 12 new coronavirus cases, 11 from returning residents from South Africa and one a local transmission from a known contact. The number of cases has now risen to 332.

Two people from Masvingo also recovered from the virus increasing the total to 51.

Masvingo now has the second highest number of recoveries after Harare.

It has 13 while Harare had 18 but Harare has 98 active cases while Masvingo has 28. Matebeleland South has 45 active cases.

A total of 56 746 people have been tested since the outbreak on 20 March.

Only four people have died, with the last death on 22 April.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has declared Monday, 15 June, national prayer and fasting day to ask God’s intervention to overcome the pandemic.

Globally, the number of coronavirus cases has risen to 7.5 million.

Over 421 400 people have so far died and 3.8 million have recovered.

Brazil has now topped 40 000 deaths and could soon overtake the United Kingdom which has 41 200 deaths.

It has the second highest number of cases at 787 000.

The United States now has nearly 2.1 million cases and over 115 000 deaths.
