ZIFA broke

Zimbabwe might have to pull out of the 2014 World Cup because the Zimbabwe Football Association is broke. ZIFA vice president Ndumiso Gumede said the International Football Association (FIFA) had told the association that it should not get involved in any games unless it has a full government guarantee or sponsorship that covers accommodation, match expenses and all incidentals. ZIFA should also clear its debts which now total €3 million. “Unless government chips in and funds the match against Egypt, we are better off paying a huge fine of about $50 000 to FIFA than accruing another huge debt to fulfill the game,” Gumede said. Zimbabwe is due to play Egypt in March with the return match in June.
