President Robert Mugabe, who turns 93 in a month, will be the leader of Zimbabwe for a life, a leader of the Johanne Masowe eChishanu, Madzibaba Benjamin, said at a rally organised by the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front in Bikita West yesterday.
Party Secretary for Administration Ignatius Chombo seemed to confirm this when he said that Mugabe will be the party candidate at next year’s elections and anyone who seeks to take over should wait for the 2019 party congress but will only contest elections in 2023.
However, another pastor, who is appearing in court today, has said Mugabe will be gone by then prophesying that he will die on 17 October this year.
Pastor Patrick Mugadza appeared in court yesterday but was remanded to today.
Madzibaba Benjamin was speaking at a rally at Nyika Growth point where senior ZANU-PF officials including Vice-President Phelekezela Mphoko were campaigning for Beauty Chabaya who is vying for the Bikita West seat and seems to be facing stiff challenge from Zimbabwe People First candidate Kudakwashe Gopo and four others.
“President Mugabe was prophesied by an angel of God to lead the country until his death. Therefore there is no need for you to waste the country’s resources campaigning, leave him to lead. No one will remove him,” Madzibaba Benjamin was quoted as saying.
