The case in which Manicaland Provincial Affairs Minister Mandi Chimene is fighting to conduct elections to replace Christopher Mutsvangwa as leader is on today.
The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans’ Association (ZNLWVA) last week successfully sought an interdict blocking Chimene’s group from convening a special meeting to elect a new executive.
The order was granted against George Mlala, Charles Mpofu, Joseph Chinotimba, Esther Munyaradzi, Stephen Moyo and Robert Mukwena.
Mutsvangwa was expelled from the ruling Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front and Parliament but remains the war veterans leader.
Members of Mutsvangwa’s executive have also been arrested for allegedly being involved in crafting a statement in which they called on Mugabe to step down as he was now holding the nation to ransom.
Chimene’s liberation credentials are also being questioned.
Defence Forces Chief General Constantine Chiwenga recently challenged some of the so-called war veterans to prove their liberation credentials.
In what most people believe was a reference to Chimene, Chiwenga said: “This nonsense of someone who was at a refugee camp or was a cleaner moving around telling people that he or she fought in the struggle is just that – nonsense. Wakarwa hondo kupi?”
“Vanhu ngavapute mbanje dzavo zvakanaka, hazvirambidzwi. Kana ririshave rekumusha kwenyu it’s ok, putayi ikoko – don’t disturb us because we have lost thousands of innocent sons and daughters,” Chiwenga said.
There are claims that Chimene was not a war veteran but a gwada poshto.
