Zimbabwe has another coronavirus outbreak at a boarding school, this time in Matebeleland North

Zimbabwe today recorded another coronavirus outbreak at a boarding school, this time in Matebeleland North, but only six pupils were affected.

There have been coronavirus outbreaks at boarding schools in Matebeleland South and Manicaland since schools opened in March.

Today there were 22 new cases and 22 recoveries as well but one person died resulting in the number of active cases dropping to 1 406.

So far 1 557 people have died and 35 123 have recovered. Cases have risen to 38 086.

Matebeleland South has 527 active cases followed by Harare with 379, Manicaland 269 and Bulawayo 124.

A very high number, for a weekend, of 12 112 people were vaccinated for the first time today and a further 5 807 got their second dose raising the number of people that have been fully vaccinated to  53 418 and those who have received the first jab to 336 600.

Zimbabwe intends to reach herd immunity by the end of the year which means vaccinating at least 60% of the population.
