The Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front does not need a special congress to endorse its party leader as the presidential candidate as this is done every year at the annual conference.
According to the party constitution, the powers and functions of the National People's Conference are:
- to receive and consider reports of the Central Committee on behalf of Congress;
- to co-ordinate and supervise the implementation of decisions and programmes of Congress by the Central Committee;
- to declare the President of the Party elected at Congress as the State Presidential Candidate of the Party;
- to exercise any such powers and authority as may- be incidental thereto.
