Woman rejects $975 million divorce cheque because it’s too little

The former wife of Harold Hamm, chief executive of oil driller Continental Resources, has rejected a $974.8 million divorce cheque apparently because it is too little. Sue Ann Arnall, who was married to Hamm for 26 years, said the money was inadequate because it allowed her former husband to keep the bulk of a fortune that her lawyers estimated at about $18 billion. To put the figure into context, Hamm’s fortune is enough to finance Zimbabwe’e entire budget for 2015 and pay off all its debts and leave enough change to finance the 2016 budget. The cheque that his ex-wife rejected can finance at least 12 key ministries in Zimbabwe this year. These are the ministries of finance, public service, industry, agriculture, mines, environment, foreign affairs, local government, information, small enterprises, women’s affairs and parliament. What an unequal world we live in!
