Mike Chitewere has two plots, one of them the largest. He is being asked to payUS$47 531.23 for one and US$35 403.90 for the other.
According to Mrs Makaya, apart from only one, most of the plot holders are either in their seventies or eighties.
What is baffling the plot holders is that when they bought their plots it was clearly stated that whoever bought the remainder of Irene Township must “acknowledge that the 12 tenants/plot holders have paid in full for their plots and that they be allowed to take transfer when Township Planning requirements have been completed”.
It is not clear why the matter has remained unresolved up to now, but the plot holders had their spirits lifted when Ferro Consulting took Mike Chitewere to court but withdrew the case on 5 March 2024.
The plot holders apparently read this as a victory for one of their colleagues and took Ferro Consulting to court but lost, resulting in a ruling that ordered them to pay hefty development costs.
The ruling was made by Judges Isaac Muzenda and Sijabuliso Siziba.
The plot holders are planning to appeal the ruling but have no financial resources to do so and may be running out of time.
