Parliament sets up committee to look into death threats received by MDC-T members

Parliament today set up a five-member committee to look into alleged death threats received by Members of Parliament belonging to the opposition Movement for Democratic Change and has asked the committee to report back by 31 March next year.

The committee will be chaired by Chief Fortune Charumbira. Other members are Paurina Mpariwa, Ziyambi Ziyambi, Gift Chimanikire, Paradzai Chakona and Ntandoyenkosi Mlilo.

Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda said the committee will investigate the source of the alleged threatening messages, determine whether the said messages directly or indirectly over influence constitute contempt of Parliament and; make appropriate recommendations and report to the House by 31st March, 2017.

The issue of the alleged threats was raised by MDC-T vice-President Nelson Chamisa.
