Movement for Democratic Change organising secretary Nelson Chamisa today called on the people of Harare to come to Freedom Square tomorrow to hear the new president address what has been dubbed the “Cross Over Rally”.
“We urge the people to come and hear what the new President of a new Zimbabwe has to say. We respect the cross over rally as it is an event in our history,” Chamisa said.
He said this at a press conference at which he said that MDC deputy national chairman Morgen Komichi had been arrested early this morning after allegedly handing over to the police a ballot paper that was found in a dustbin at the Harare International Conference centre.
“The police are not in denial that the ballot paper is genuine but they want to know from our deputy chairperson the whistle blower,” Chamisa said.
“We believe that it is not Senator Komichi but ZEC, which has questions to answer. For us these developments witnessed demonstrate the integrity of ZANU-PF. ZANU-PF wants to undermine the will of the people. ZANU-PF knows that it is going to lose this election and that is why they are attempting to rig it.”
Tomorrow’s rally is the MDC’s final rally. The elections will be held on Wednesday which has been declared a public holiday.

Deputy Minister Komichi arrested

The MDC Deputy National Chairperson and Deputy Minister of Transport, Morgen Komichi was early this morning arrested at his Harare home and is currently detained at the Harare Central Police Station.
Addressing a press conference in Harare today, the MDC National Organising Secretary, Nelson Chamisa said Hon. Komichi was arrested after he handed over a ballot paper to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) which had been found in a dustbin at the Harare International Conference Centre.

He raised concerns over the increase in violence that is taking place across the country especially in rural areas where in Mudzi, Mashonaland East, villagers are being commandeered to Zanu PF militia bases and told to take down the last three digits of their ballot paper and give it to the village head who will be waiting a few metres away from the polling station.
“However, what inspires us is that the people will vote for real change and a new Zimbabwe. Our ducks are on the row and it is game over for Zanu PF and game over for poverty and tyranny,” said Hon. Chamisa.
He called on the people of Zimbabwe to come in their numbers to the “Cross Over Rally” set for Monday at the Freedom Square opposite Harare Show Grounds.
The rally had been banned earlier by the police who claimed that they had no manpower but the MDC made an urgent High Court application and the courts ruled that the rally should proceed.
