The governor of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe John Mangudya has promised to pay civil servants on time in 2016 pre-emptying a strike planned by the civil servants who did not get their December salaries.

The government only managed to pay teachers and postponed the pay-date for civil servants to 5 January.

According to The Herald, Mangudya held a meeting with the Apex Council, which represents all civil servants, on Wednesday to brief them on the status of government finances.

The central bank is the banker to the government.
