Active coronavirus cases continue to drop as more people recover in Zimbabwe

The number of active coronavirus cases in Zimbabwe today dropped to 1 109 after the country recorded 27 new cases but 37 people recovered. There was no death.

Twenty-two of the people that recovered were from Matebeleland South where there was an outbreak at two boarding schools.

Matebeleland South, which had more than 500 cases two days ago, is down to 269. Harare has the highest number of active cases at 372. Manicaland has 181 and Bulawayo 133.

Deaths remained at 1 565 while cases rose to 38 191 and recoveries to 35 517.

More than 24 000 Zimbabweans were vaccinated today with 17 345 getting the first jab and 6 729 the second and final dose.

A total of 69 992 people have now been fully vaccinated while 388 021 have received one dose.
