His biggest rival, Mwonzora, who was accused of working with ZANU-PF when he took over leadership of the MDC-T, says Chamisa is part of a mafia that is hoodwinking people that there is opposition in Zimbabwe when he is aiding Mnangagwa to attain a two-thirds majority.
Mnangagwa is currently three seats from attaining a two-thirds majority in the national assembly. He already has more than two-thirds of the 210 elected seats but is three seats short when the women’s and youth quotas are added to make up the 280-seat assembly.
Mwonzora says this is evident because Chamisa has not challenged Tshabangu in court that he is not interim secretary-general of the party. There were also glaring anomalies in the papers that his lawyers submitted to court and this seemed to be deliberate because even a law student would not make such a blunder yet Chamisa himself is an advocate and has some of the brightest legal brains behind him.

Instead of tackling Tshabangu, Chamisa continues to sell hope to his supporters. He told his supporters that Mnangagwa would be out before the end of the year. We are now into 2024 but Mnangagwa is still there and even had the luxury of going on leave.
The level at which Chamisa is taking the people for granted is just appalling. He had the audacity to post this message on his X handle on New year’s day: “A 2024 FULL OF SURPRISES… As we begin a new year, I encourage you to stay focused on the promise. We were robbed but God is a RESTORER. We keep the faith. Indeed 2023 was the year. Let 2024 be the year of vindication!
“Wishing you abundant blessings, unprecedented wins and record-breaking gains this 2024.. Our goal is single and simple; to make change happen and transform Zimbabwe unto greatness. @SavannahSamas responded: “Under normal circumstances … in a normal 21st century political party, no leader can lead them to two elections defeats and keep their job, that can’t possibly be politically acceptable.
“As principled as you claim to be… you should now concede defeat and resign gracefully.
“Happy New Year to you Pastor Chamisa.”
Chamisa’s supporters argue that Zimbabwe is not a normal country.
Chamisa is still there. Maybe he is taking cue from his colleague, Zambia President Hakainde Hichilema. Hichilema contested five presidential elections and lost before winning on his sixth attempt. But this can only be the case if he is genuine.
