17die of coronavirus in Zimbabwe but active coronavirus cases now less than 6 000

February kicked off on a promising note with 17 deaths, 160 new coronavirus cases and 539 recoveries resulting in the number of active cases dropping to 5731.

Zimbabwe now has 33 548 cases but some 26 583 people have recovered and 1234 have died.

The recovery rate has risen to 79.2% from a low of 54%.

The country is on strict Level 4 lockdown until 15 February.

Harare still has the highest number of active cases but is now down to 2 123. Manicaland has 728 followed by Mashonaland East which is now in third place, replacing Mashonaland West, with 585 cases. Bulawayo is down to 419 cases.

Ten of the deaths were in Harare.
