Zimbabwe’s ambassador to the United Nations Chitsaka Chipaziwa last year said that the West was against the exportation of diamonds from Marange because what bothered them was not what Zimbabwe was doing with its diamonds but the fact that the precious stones were not under their control. There could be some truth to that. For three years the United Nations and the United States turned a blind eye as one of their companies breached US sanctions on Zimbabwe.
