Mines Minister Obert Mpofu today said Zimbabwe plans to resume selling diamonds from its Marange fields within days because it fully meets the standards required by the Kimberley Process, the body that regulates trade in conflict diamonds. The KP began its four-day plenary meeting in Jerusalem today and Zimbabwe’s diamonds are top of the agenda. Industry experts say the country should be allowed free trade but human rights organisations say the country should continue to be suspended because violence and human rights abuses have not stopped.
