Zimbabwe coronavirus death toll now at 26, local cases exceed imported ones for the first time

A 71-year-old woman from Matebeleland North was today said to have died of the coronavirus, after a post mortem, raising the death toll to 26.

Local cases, now at 872, exceeded imported ones, which are at 841, for the first time.

Zimbabwe reported 102 new cases today, 81 of which were local transmissions.

It now has 1 713 cases.

Recoveries remained stagnant at 472 while active cases rose to 1 215.

Zimbabwe is now going to restrict the number of people that travel to city centres in a bid to curb the spread of the virus.

There are now 14.8 million cases across the globe, including 610 800 deaths, 8.8 million recoveries and 5.3 million active cases.

The United States, which has the highest number of cases, will clock four million any time.
