There will be chaos in the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front if President Robert Mugabe dies before a proper successor is appointed, an unscientific survey by The Insider shows.
Half of the people that participated in the internet survey said there would be chaos if President Mugabe left before a successor was appointed.
A third said nothing would happen as the question of his death had already been factored in while one sixth said what would happen was anybody’s guess.
The question of Mugabe’s successor has resurfaced because of his ailing health, though he has said he is in good health and can live up to 100.
One report has even quoted unnamed senior ZANU-PF officials as saying the military boss Constantine Chiwenga will take over, sidelining all the people that are currently reported to be at the forefront such as Joyce Mujuru and Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Political analysts have argued that people are focussing too much on Mugabe forgetting that he is just the leader of a political party which has its own constitution, norms and principles.
One even argued that ZANU-PF was run along Western lines and was not dependent on individuals including Mugabe.
“Why are we being forced to focus on who will succeed Mugabe? Is anyone asking who will succeed Obama? Did anyone know that Obama who take over after Bush?,” the analyst asked.
