NRZ shortlists five for general manager post

The National Railways of Zimbabwe board has shortlisted five candidates from an initial list of 40 who applied to head the ailing parastatal, an official has said.

NRZ board chairman Alvord Mabena said the position had attracted applications from outside the country as well.

“We have shortlisted five and soon we are going to make an announcement,” he said today although he refused to reveal some of the names shortlisted for the position.

The parastastal has been run by Lewis Mukwada in acting capacity since the death of Mike Karakadzai in a car crash in August, 2013.

NRZ is struggling to break even with antiquated machines and locomotives resulting in capacity falling below 20 percent. It has, however, pinned its hopes on the proposed $750 million loan from the Development Bank of South Africa.

Government officials have on several occasions indicated that the deal was almost complete.- The Source
