Zimbabwe diamonds- UN owned company assisting Mujuru’s company

The United States and the European Union has been fighting to stop the export of diamonds from Marange because these are “blood diamonds” and it is in breach of targeted sanctions on Zimbabwe. But for three years, they turned a blind eye while a company owned jointly by the World Bank and the United Nations assisted a diamond mine owned by former army commander Solomon Mujuru who if on the sanctions list. What made the case even more interesting is that at the time the mine was not supposed to sell its diamonds because of an ownership dispute. The question then is why was the UN company doing it?
