Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai said the coming elections are about the transfer of power from President Robert Mugabe to himself and this time the Movement for Democratic Change will not allow a situation where a person who loses an election is brought into government through coalition.
He told people in Binga on Thursday that the MDC was ready and geared for elections anytime but wanted key reforms to be in place so that what happened in 2008 is not repeated.
A statement from his party said that the key reforms that should be implemented included security sector realignment and media reforms.
“This time when the MDC wins the mandate of the people in the next elections, the will of the people should be accepted. The MDC will not allow a situation where a person who loses in an election is brought into government through coalition,” he said.
“Zimbabwe can never be a colony again. Not for defending what is wrong but defending what is right. As the MDC, we have to finish what we started 14 years ago by voting for the MDC in the coming elections.”
Tsvangirai said as President, he was ready to listen and work with the people to deliver a new Zimbabwe where every Zimbabwean enjoyed the benefits of being a citizen of this country.
“In the past 30 years government has neglected the people. Since the year 2000, you have not improved while there is so much wealth in the area. In this area we have fish, gas, coal deposits. So the MDC intends that those natural resources benefit the people of Binga and other communities,” he said.
