Local government Minister and Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front national commissar Saviour Kasukuwere is suing the government-controlled Herald and The Sunday Mail for $7 million for defamation.

Kasukuwere says the two papers have since September published several stories that are false and defamatory and imply that he is a corrupt minister.

Kasukuwere, who is said to be one of the leaders of the G40, a group that opposes the ascendancy of Vie-President Emmerson Mnangagwa and allegedly backs First Lady Grace Mugabe, says the articles give the impression that he is a nepotist who “irregularly parceled out public land to his cronies and relatives; that he utilized public land to bribe people and is not fit to hold public office”.
