Former President Canaan Banana’s son, Michael, is in trouble again, this time in Britain where he has been living in exile for more than a decade.
He is reported to have defrauded the Stockport Council of £2 485 by receiving a cash benefit for a council house while living elsewhere.
The council has asked Michael to repay the money or it will take him to court.
According to the Daily Mail, Michael was living with Caroline Banana, described as his wife, and also labelled a cheat.
Caroline is reported to have won £95 000 on the Deal or No Deal show but continued to receive benefits.
She was discovered by the British Broadcasting Corporation which tracked her for 18 months.
Michael was involved in a love triangle in the late 1980s in which Donald Kalinda was shot dead over a girl Sharon Roberts.
Canaan Banana was Zimbabwe’s first president but was a ceremonial Head of State while Robert Mugabe who was Prime Minister had executive powers.
Banana stepped down at the end of 1987 to give way to Mugabe who became executive president.
