Ed: Chombo’s statement, following that of Deputy Secretary for Women’s Affairs Eunice Sandi Moyo, and Grace Mugabe’s admission that no one should denigrate the country’s vice-presidents, shows that ZANU-PF is trying to patch-up things as it prepares for the 2018 elections with no solution to the country’s economic crisis in sight. The party now needs to be united to fight both the opposition and civil society. It could also be an admission by the First Lady that she cannot compete against Emmerson Mnangagwa who has been accused of leading a faction called Lacoste while Grace is allegedly behind G40. But it might be too early to write Grace off. She could simply be trying to regroup. Whatever the case, ZANU-PF has to brace up for tough times ahead of the 2018 elections as time is running out to turn around the country’s fortunes. At the end of the day, Zimbabweans have shown that when it comes to electing a government, bread and butter issues are topmost on their minds.
