Billion-dollar fraud suspect came holidaying to Zimbabwe

London-based banker Javier Martin-Artajo Rueda came to Zimbabwe on an extended holiday while the Federal Bureau of Investigations was looking for him in connection with a £4 billion fraud at JP Morgan banking group.

He was arrested this week after handing himself over to the police in Madrid, Spain.

Martin-Artajo is reported to have spent some time at the five-star Bumi Hills near Kariba with his British wife Sarah Berrow in March this year.

Despite its pariah status, Zimbabwe is a favourite holiday spot for the world’s richest.

Last year, the world’s richest man Bill Gates jetted in with his wife to spend some time at the Malilangwe resort in the Lowveld.

GoDaddy’s Bob Parsons is also a regular visitor who comes to the country on his annual hunts.
