Beitbridge border shut down

1

Beitbridge border was today shut down as thousands of people marched from Musina in South Africa to the border post protesting against a new law by Zimbabwe barring people from importing basic commodities like food, building material, furniture and cooking oil, among others, without an import licence.

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority has threatened to impound buses and vehicles of public transporters who help cross border traders to bring in the goods in question.

Zimbabwe introduced the new law last week to curb foreign currency outflows by people that buy goods that can be obtained on the locally.
