Bad news for Zimbabwe’s media- almost half the adults say it lies

0

Almost half of Zimbabwe’s adults believe that the country’s media lies. It prints or says things that it knows are not true.

A survey released by Afrobarometer on Thursday but carried out in December 2014 shows that 61 percent of those in urban areas believe that the media knowingly publishes lies.

The majority of those who believe it publishes lies are people with post-secondary education and constituted a staggering 67 percent.

More MDC-T supporters than ZANU-PF sympathizers think that the news media “often” or “always” publishes lies.

According to the survey the situation has actually improved compared to 2012. In 2012, some  55 percent of Zimbabweans said the news media lied. The figure fell to 47 percent in the latest survey.
