Zimbabwe still receiving military aid from UK

Zimbabwe is one of the countries that are still receiving military aid from Britain, the Minister of State for Defence Nick Harvey said yesterday.

Responding to a question by Cathy Jamieson of the Labour Party, Harvey said the countries were receiving aid either under the Defence Assistance Fund funded under the Ministry of Defence budget or through the Conflict Pool which was funded by treasury.

According to the list the minister released Zimbabwe is not receiving any funding under the Defence Assistance Fund but it is receiving aid through the Conflict Pool.

The amounts of aid were not stated.

The Conflict Pool is managed jointly by the Department for International Development and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office as well as the Ministry of Defence “to deliver Building Stability Overseas Strategy objectives”.

Last year Harvey refused to disclose whether there was any military cooperation between his country and Zimbabwe saying the information was not held centrally and “could only be provided at disproportionate cost”.
