Zimbabwe bans unrefined chrome exports

Zimbabwe announced today that it had banned the export of chrome ore in a move aimed at boosting local smelters that will now have to process the mineral before its sale overseas.   Zimbabwe has nine chrome smelters capable of handling 1.5 million tonnes of ore per year. Zimbabwe, along with South Africa, holds about 90 percent of the world’s chromite reserves and resources.
