Two Israelis were caught at Ben Gurion Airport with Marange diamonds valued at $140 000 reports said today. The two were David Vardi, a trader on the Israeli Diamond Exchange, and Gilad HaLachmi who told officials he works as a water consultant in Zimbabwe. HaLachmi said he was asked by Vardi to carry the diamonds for him. Israel is currently chair of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme and its chair Boaz Hirsch has instructed the diamond industry not to buy diamonds from Marange.
