Zimbabwe’s attorney-general Prince Machaya says one can be jailed for up to one year for moving around without wearing a face mask.
In a video posted by Information Secretary Nick Mangwana, Machaya says alternatively one can pay a fine of $36 000.
Zimbabwe extended its national lockdown by 14 days from today but said those who move out of their homes must wear facemasks, including home-made ones.
So far, the country only has 34 positive cases. Four people have died and five have recovered.
A total of 19 317 people were arrested for violating lockdown restrictions in the first five-week lockdown.
