Mudenda blocks MDC-T query about Mphoko’s year-long hotel stay

Q & A:

HON. MARIDADI: My question is directed to the Hon. Vice President Hon. Mphoko. You have been staying at the Rainbow Towers ever since you were appointed the Vice President of this country. You know the economic situation of this country. Do you honestly think … [HON. MEMBERS: Inaudible interjections]

THE HON. SPEAKER: Order, order Hon. Members. May I remind Hon. Members that the questions to be asked are on policy and not on specific issues?

HON. MARIDADI: Hon. Speaker, thank you for the guidance but this is pertaining to him in particular, so he will not need to give reference to anything or anyone. Hon. Vice President…

THE HON. SPEAKER: Order, I said order! Hon. Maridadi, with all due respect, if you want to ask for a specific issue, you can present that in written questions.

HON. MARIDADI: But it is a policy question.

THE HON. SPEAKER: Do not argue with the Chair. I have given you the opportunity. I have asked you to put your question in writing.

HON. MARIDADI: It is a policy question Mr. Speaker. I have rephrased it, it is now policy. Hon. Vice President….

THE HON. SPEAKER: I have ruled.

HON. GONESE: Thank you Mr. Speaker. I believe that when we are in this august House, we are mandated to take the business of the House seriously and also issues affecting this nation seriously. I believe that, with your guidance Hon. Speaker….

THE HON. SPEAKER: Order, order! Please sit down.

HON. GONESE: I have not articulated my point Hon. Speaker.

THE HON. SPEAKER: Order, order! I think the Chair has been very generous enough. I said Hon. Maridadi can ask a specific question in writing.

HON. GONESE: The point which I wanted to make, I have not even articulated it. On a matter of principle….

THE HON. SPEAKER: Please sit down. Order, order – [HON. MEMBERS: Inaudible interjections] – Order, order! Hon. Maridadi, you do not want to listen to me. I ruled that, that question can be asked – Hon. Maridadi, do not hide behind. Order, order! Hon. Member, I will order you out of this House.

The question relating to the Hon. Vice President staying in the hotel may be asked as a policy question in writing. So, you are not excluded; put it in writing.

HON. CHAMISA: On a point of order Mr. Speaker.

THE HON. SPEAKER: I will not allow that.

HON. CHAMISA: We have to respect our rules.
