Biti who has been spoiling for a showdown with Ncube since he was appointed Finance Minister in September last year described Ncube as a loud mouth with no clue about how to run Zimbabwe’s economy.
Biti, who was Finance Minister during the inclusive government from 2009 to 2013, told an online publication in London last week that: “Mthuli is a loud mouth that doesn’t have a connection with its brain and the economy has found him out. This is about (1) realism, this is about (2) intelligence and this is about (3) honesty. These three things are lacking in Mthuli Ncube.”
Ncube who only responded to Biti’s statement today said: “Biti’s choice of crude language not only reveals his analytical deficiencies but also demonstrates lack of sophistication and poise normally associated with a global platform such as Chatham House. He has much to learn. However, this may take a while.”
Biti was in London to launch a book he co-authored with former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, Greg Mills and Jeffrey Herbst which is entitled: Democracy Works- Turning politics to Africa’s advantage.
Ncube has tried to be diplomatic all along but he recently told Biti in Parliament that Biti had destroyed Zimbabwe’s ability to conduct monetary policy by adopting the United States dollar as the country’s currency.
Ncube argues that there is no way Zimbabwe can fully recover if it continues to use the greenback and says Zimbabwe will have its own currency before the end of the year.
This was confirmed on Friday by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
