*HON. ZINDI: Thank you Hon. Speaker. Hon. Speaker, I am the one who introduced this motion regarding the welfare of war veterans, I am a woman who is a war veteran and when I hear such debates, such as Hon. Mliswa looking down upon women saying they are useless, especially regarding Members of Parliament who are women who were elected on a proportional basis, it really hurts me since I raised this motion.
When we look at some parts of our Constitution it shows that women are highly valued, they are important in the nation. He is talking about women who were defeated in the primary elections and in my case I was not defeated in the proper manner but there was rigging in the elections. For the first time in all elections we thought that as Zimbabweans, we had matured and we were going to lead to the advancement of women and we were talking of gender equality and equity.
When we talk of development we make equal contributions. What surprised me was that my party, ZANU-PF, is really the worst culprit. They are looking down upon the women and what is happening is if Hon. Mliswa continues debating, castigating women, he wants this to be perpetuated, the looking down of women, the denigrating of women.
THE ACTING SPEAKER: Hon. Zindi, you said you were raising a point of order but you are now debating.
*HON. ZINDI: Hon. Speaker, I am pleading with Hon. Mliswa to talk about the development of Zimbabwe – looking at the welfare of war veterans, instead of castigating women. I thank you.
*THE ACTING SPEAKER: Hon. Mliswa has proffered his apologies. When he apologised nobody heard him and he asked for forgiveness.
