One miner was killed at the Mimosa Platinum Mine in Zvishavane yesterday after he was struck by a drill on his head, the company said today, four months after another miner died last August when he was crushed by a falling rock.
“The miner Charles Teketai was tramming ore when his Load, Haul and Dump machine (LHD) encroached into a drill steel barricade, resulting in one of the drill steels striking his head. He died from the subsequent injuries,” said head corporate affairs Elizabeth Chibanda in a statement.
Witnesses said that Teketai died immediately.
In 2012, up to 178 miners at Mimosa were trapped in a shaft after a fire broke out.
