Khupe wins first round against Chamisa

Thokozani Khupe today won the first round against Nelson Chamisa in their battle for the MDC-T name and symbol when the High Court in Bulawayo ruled that the case was not urgent.

The Chamisa faction of the Movement for Democratic Change-Tsvangirai filed an urgent application with the court to bar Khupe and her colleagues Obert Gutu and Abednigo Bhebhe from using the party name and symbol after the faction expelled the three from the party.

Khupe argued that the matter was not urgent and won the case today.

Gutu today tweeted that Justice Bere dismissed the case with costs.

Khupe held her faction congress at the weekend and Obert Gutu was elected Khupe’s deputy, and Abednigo Bhebhe was elected national chairperson.

Khupe has removed founding president Morgan Tsvangirai’s portrait from her party’s symbol thus retaining the original MDC-T symbol when Tsvangirai was still leader.

Khupe last week won another battle against Chamisa when the Constitutional Court said the case in which she is challenging her expulsion from Parliament was an urgent matter and will be heard on 30 May.
