The United States and German ambassadors to Zimbabwe have predicted that ZANU-PF will become irrelevant once Mugabe goes.  But the demise of Mugabe and ZANU-PF has been on the cards for more than a decade. Both have survived. One of the reasons for ZANU-PF’s survival given by a political observer seven years ago is that the party is built along Western political lines. “ZANU-PF is a strong party,” the observer said. “And contrary to what people think, it is built along the same lines as Western political parties.
