Brazil overtakes UK in coronavirus deaths

Brazil has overtaken the United Kingdom to become the country with the second highest number of us deaths in the world.

It now has just over 41 900 deaths against the UK’s 41 400.

The United States leads with 116 800 deaths.

The UK, however, leads in terms of the death rate as it has only 293 000 cases while Brazil has nearly 842 000 and the US has 2.1 million.

Brazil had 29 300 deaths at the beginning of this month while the UK had 38 400 and the US, 106 100.

Globally there are now 7.7 million cases but only 3.3 million are active.

More than 428 300 people have died.

Zimbabwe has only recorded four deaths and has 343 cases of which 288 are active.
