Oppah Muchinguri is one of the most powerful women in the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front. She was an aide to ZANLA commander Josiah Tongogara and survived the accident that killed him. Some people believe that Muchinguri is being rewarded for keeping quiet about how Tongogara really died just days before he was supposed to return to Zimbabwe with the rest of the ZANU-PF leaders and military. But even then she still remains a political power player within the party and the presidential succession battle. There are just over 20 Wikileaks cables on her. Here is the first batch.

Mutasa said Muchinguri is Karanga not Manyika

Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front central committee member Manatsa Mutasa told United States ambassador James McGee that he was so disgusted by corruption in the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front that he was not campaigning for the party in the 2008 elections.

Bennett said the Makoni project was a ruse

Movement for Democratic Change treasurer Roy Bennett said the “Makoni project”- the entry of former Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front politburo member Simba Makoni into the presidential race- was more an attempt by some in ZANU-PF to seize the party from President Robert Mugabe.
