Nothing seems to be going on well for Zimbabwe. The economy is in tatters and its image is in shreds. One recent report, for example, said things were so bad that even the world ‘s oldest profession needed a shot of Viagra.
It quoted one prostitute who works for one of the classier hotels in Harare, probably the world renowned Meikles, a member of the leading hotels of the world as this is where international journalists have camped, as saying: “Business is really bad. There has been nothing since January. All the tourists have gone. I haven’t had a (client) in three months.”
As if this was not enough, another report said because of the turmoil in Zimbabwe, South Africa has opened its doors to Zimbabwean refugees – of the four-legged kind.
It said the first consignment of traumatised pets rescued from farms in Zimbabwe arrived in Johannesburg .The dogs and cats will be rehabilitated and then rehomed with families because they were facing an uncertain future in Zimbabwe as their owners were either in the process of leaving the country or had already fled their homes in the wake of farm invasions.
The seven dogs and two cats were met at Johannesburg International Airport by representatives of the Wet Nose Animal Rescue Centre.
