Individuals not affected by import ban after all

beitbridge protestsAlmost three weeks after introducing a law that restricts the importation of basic goods, and after riots that rocked the country for a week, the Permanent Secretary for Trade and Industry Abigail Shonhiwa today said the ban is not targetted at individuals but at commercial importers.

According to The Chronicle, Shonhiwa told delegates attending the Buy Zimbabwe summit in Mutare that the new regulations did not bar people from importing a few products.

“There was no clarity and there has been confusion regarding the statutory instrument. However, communication will be made, this policy is for commercial imports and not someone bringing in their 2 litres of cooking oil or whatever product that is on that list,” she said.
