Carlson Rezidor, one of the largest hotel groups worldwide, says it plans to build a 245 room hotel in Zimbabwe, which will open in 2019.
The group, which said it is strengthening its position in Africa, said the facility would be called the Radisson Blu Hotel Harare, and will be situated alongside Chapman Golf Club.
“We’re particularly excited by this development in Harare,” said Andrew McLachlan, Senior Vice President, Business Development, Africa & Indian Ocean.
“It fits right into our strategy to enter new African countries by operating properties in the main cities and business hubs. In addition, the location is top class, and we’ll be incorporating our BluPrint interior design philosophy to the bedrooms, making it really special.”
If it goes through, the hotel will be the largest such property to be built in Harare in the past decade, and will give a fresh profile to struggling tourism industry.
“Africa is our biggest growth market where we are signing a hotel every 37 days and opening a hotel every 60 days” said Wolfgang M. Neumann, the president and chief executive of Rezidor.
”The group’s total portfolio comprises 69 hotels in 28 countries with almost 15 000 rooms in operation or under development. We have the largest hotel development pipeline, of any international hotel group, in Africa.”
