Zimbabwean woman caught with 20 kg of drugs in India

A  Zimbabwean woman identified as Cellia Dhomingo was arrested in India yesterday after being found with 20kg of ephedrine, a drug used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine whose street names include meth, crystal meth, ice, crack and speed. According to an Indian newspaper, The Hindu, Dhomingo was arrested at Cochin International Airport where she was scheduled to take a Qatar Airways flight to Doha on her way to Harare. In April another Zimbabwean woman identified as Elder Rizive was arrested in India trying to smuggle 25kg of drugs. Her haul was valued at about US$2 million. She too was scheduled to take a Qatar Airways flight to Doha but was on her way to Johannesburg.  In April, The Hindu reported that Indian customs officials had discovered that drug dealers were targeting African women as couriers of the drug also known as the “poor man’s cocaine”. It said the drug sold for about US$550 a kg in India but was resold at 10 times that in foreign destinations.
