Zimbabwe to give donated coronavirus vaccines to citizens for free

Zimbabwe will give its citizens coronavirus vaccines sourced from international partners and friends for free.

Zimbabwe has raised US$100 million for the procurements of vaccines and will inoculate about 60% of the population.

Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube today said there seems to be a misunderstanding about payment for the coronavirus vaccine.

“I would like to make it that the vaccines that the government is procuring with the support of our international partners and friends will be made available for free to the citizens of Zimbabwe,” he said in a short statement.

Zimbabwe has been ravaged by the pandemic especially this year. It has recoded 1 269 deaths, 33 964 cases and still has 5 304 active cases.

There have been 20 097 cases and 906 deaths this year alone.

The country is on a strict Level 4 lockdown until 15 February.
