Nearly 600 Zimbabweans recover from coronavirus as figures continue to improve

Some 597 Zimbabweans recovered from coronavirus today bringing the number of active cases down to 5 304.

There were 15 deaths and 150 new cases with the seven-day rolling average dropping from 258 yesterday to 237.

So far 33 964 people have contracted the virus but 27 391 have recovered and 1 269 have died.

The recovery rate has risen to 80.6%.

Zimbabwe is under a strict Level 4 lockdown which ends on 15 February and might be reviewed.

Harare now has 1 980active cases but the figure for Manicaland remains high at 735. The Mashonaland provinces have dropped from third spot which has now been taken by Matebeleland North with 545 active cases. Bulawayo is down to 415.

Deaths in the United States, which has the highest number of cases and deaths in the world, could reach half a million by the end of this month.  It already has about 460 000 deaths.
