Zimbabwe suspends more than 500 junior doctors- seniors withdraw services

Zimbabwe today suspended more than 500 junior doctors who went on strike at the beginning of this month and refused to return to work after the Labour Court ruled that their strike was illegal.

The Health Services Board said the junior doctors would be suspended for 14 days without pay or benefits and would not be allowed to visit their workplaces or carry out any work related duties.

Senior doctors from Masvingo immediately withdrew their services in solidarity with the junior doctors saying the “blatant abuse and unfair treatment and disregard of the profession has shown that the employer has not respect for the profession and our patients”.
