Zimbabwe records 57 new coronavirus cases today, no deaths

Zimbabwe today recorded 57 new cases of coronavirus, 24 of them returning residents from South Africa, pushing the cumulative total to 8 667.

The national covid-19 coordinator Agnes Mahomva expressed concern over the increasing number of new cases warning that this might necessitate a hard lockdown.

Although there was no death today, there were only six recoveries resulting in the number of active cases rising to 366 and the total number of recoveries to 8 046.

The bulk of the active cases are in Bulawayo which now has 104, followed by Harare with 69 and Matebeleland South 64.

Globally, there are now 52.3 million cases. Some 1.29 million people have died, 36.6 million have recovered and there are still 14.4 million active cases.

Italy became the 10th country to have more than one million cases.

The United States is heading towards 11 million cases.
