Movement for Democratic Change leader Nelson Chamisa has once again said he can get help from United States President Donald Trump any time.
Trump renewed sanctions against Zimbabwe for another year last week but Chamisa said it was not a problem for him to engage with the United States President.
“Ini ndiri kutoona change iri kuuya manje manje,” he told a Thank You rally in Mutare at the weekend.
“I am seeing new cities. I am seeing new towns. I am seeing new industries but dzinouya tataurirana. Isu hatinetsi nokutaura naTrump ndakambokuudzai kuno uku. Kungosumudza foni wotaura kuti Mr Trump. Our agenda is clear we want to save……zvapera. Why, because you must have a leader anotrustwa ane confidence, asina track record yokuuraya vanhu, yokuba mari dzavanhu kana…”
Chamisa last year said Trump had promised him $15 billion bail-out if his party won the elections.
He was not yet leader of the MDC as Tsvangirai was still alive when Chamisa made the announcement.
United States embassy spokesman David Macguire dismissed Chamisa’s claim saying: “We do not support individuals or political parties. We do not take a position on who is going to be a political leader of a country. The outcome of an election is up to the people of that country to decide. We do not make such promises to individuals or political parties.”
Chamisa’s supporters did not pay any attention when Chamisa said he could call Trump any time and get assistance at the weekend and instead drowned the party leader with wild cheers.
Ironically, the section where Chamisa talks about how easy it is for him to get Trump was removed from the video of the rally posted by the MDC on Youtube.
