What do the figures tell us about coronavirus in Zimbabwe?

The number of cases was below one percent of the population for all countries. The United States, with nearly 1.5 million cases had the highest percentage at 0.4%, followed by the UK with 236 711 cases representing 0.35% of the population. South Africa came third with 13 524 cases, roughly 0.02% of the population while China was a distant 0.006% and Zimbabwe had 0.0003%. China had 82 941 cases.

The number of deaths told a different story though. The United States had the highest number of deaths at 88 507 but this represented only 5.96% of its cases. The UK with 33 998 deaths had the highest percentage at 14.36% with Zimbabwe second at 9.52% though it had only four deaths. China was at 5.59 percent with 4 633 deaths while South Africa had the lowest percentage of 1.83% with 247 deaths.

China was way out of the league in terms of recoveries as 78 219 had recovered representing a staggering 94.3%. South Africa was also doing well with 6 083 recoveries, or 44.98%. Zimbabwe’s 13 recoveries constituted 30.95% percent while the US had a low recovery rate of 22.1%. Only 327 751 people had recovered.

There was no record of recoveries for the UK.

One pleasing thing about Zimbabwe though was that although the number of cases continued to rise, none of the patients had died in more than three weeks, but the World Health Organisation warned that there was no room for complacency.
