Zimbabwe’s referendum on a new constitution will be on June 30 next year, reports said today. The Constitution Select Committee, which has been carrying out an outreach programme to get the people’s views said data uploading begins on Monday, 18th of October and should be finalised by the end of the month. Thematic group discussions will be held from November 1 to December 22 and the drafting will be done in January. A second all stakeholders’ conference will be held by March 31 and a report back to Parliament will be done on April 30. The referendum will pave way for new elections, but most people doubt the elections can be carried out next year. The committee has so far failed to meet any of its targets.
